Borussia Dortmund defender Lukasz Piszczek will miss the rest of 2013 after undergoing hip surgery.

Piszczek has been bothered by the problem since February, but planned to delay the operation until after Dortmund's Champions League campaign came to an end.

The 27-year-old is expected to have the surgery in the middle of June, and he has been told that he will not be able to train for five months following the operation.

Piszczek appeared in 29 of Dortmund's 34 Bundesliga matches this season, and according to reports, the club is expected to sign Greek defender Sokratis from Werder Bremen in the coming days to take Piszczek's place at the start of next season.
