The U.S. Men's National Ice Hockey Team captured bronze at the 2013 IIHF Men's World Championship, held May 3-19 in Stockholm. In a fitting finale, Team USA prevailed in a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory over Finland. Alex Galchenyuk (Milwaukee, Wis.) notched goals on back-to-back attempts, including the game-winner, while goaltender John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped three out of four attempts from Finland during the three-round shootout. Gibson tallied 36 saves throughout the nail-biter to deliver the U.S. its first medal since 2004.

TEAM USA SERVES KNOCKOUT PUNCH, GRABS EIGHT GOLD MEDALS

All 10 members of the Elite U.S. Women's National Boxing Team collected medals with eight gold, one silver and one bronze at the 2013 Women's Continental Championships, held May 15-20 in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza (Houston, Texas) defended her title by clinching gold in the flyweight championship. Fellow 2012 Olympian Queen Underwood (Seattle, Wash.) emerged victorious in the lightweight final, while Christina Cruz (New York, N.Y.) took the bantamweight crown. Danyelle Wolf (San Diego, Calif.) secured the welterweight title and newcomer Jennifer Hamman (Seattle, Wash.) won her first international gold in the featherweight title bout.

ARCHERY

The U.S. National Archery Team collected seven medals in an impressive showing at the 2013 Archery World Cup, held May 13-19 in Shanghai. Erika Jones (Grand Island, Neb.) claimed silver in the women's compound final, while Braden Gellenthien (College Station, Texas) secured gold and Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) earned bronze in the men's compound final. Jones and Gellenthien clinched gold in the compound mixed team final as Khatuna Lorig (West Hollywood, Calif.) and world No. 1 Brady Ellison (Glendale, Ariz.) captured gold in the recurve mixed team final. The U.S. women won silver in the team compound event, while the men took home gold.

BADMINTON

The U.S. Mixed National Badminton Team lost to Sweden, 2-3, in the opening round of the Sudirman Cup, held May 19-26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Team USA will look to improve its record when it faces Scotland on Tuesday, May 21.

BASKETBALL

USA Basketball held trials for the 2013 U.S. Women's World University Games Team, May 16-19 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 12-member team is highlighted by three-time USA Basketball gold medalists Ariel Massengale (Bolingbrook, Ill.), Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) and two-time USA Basketball gold medalist Bria Hartley (North Babylon, N.Y.) Led by head coach Sherri Coale, Team USA will begin competition on July 8 in Kazan, Russia.

The 2013 FIBA Women's U19 World Championship Team was announced at the conclusion of team trials, held May 16-19 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 12- member roster features 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship gold medalists Alexis Jones (Irving, Texas), Breanna Stewart (North Syracuse, N.Y.) and Morgan Tuck (Bolingbrook, Ill.)

CANOE/KAYAK

Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) and Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) earned silver in the women's K2 1,000-meter with a time of 3:39.96 at the 2013 ICF Sprint World Cup No. 2, held May 17-19 in Racice, Czech Republic. The duo also placed fourth in the K2 500 in 1:48.60. On the men's side, Ryan Dolan (Kailua, Hawaii) garnered a ninth-place finish in the K1 200 B Final in 38.17, while 2012 Olympian Timothy Hornsby (Atlanta, Ga.) crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 37.49.

Dana Mann (Bethesda, Md.) and Colleen Hickey (Okawville, Ill.) claimed top honors in women's kayak and canoe events at the 2013 Slalom National Team Trials, held May 17-19 in McHenry, Md. Fabien Lefevre (Bethesda, Md.) secured first place in the men's kayak race, while Casey Eichfield (Drums, Pa.) raced to first in the men's single canoe . Eichfield continued his success with a win in the men's double canoe alongside partner Devin McEwan (Salisbury, Conn.). These wins serve as automatic nominations to the 2013 U.S. World Cup Team.

CYCLING

Tejay van Garderen (Boulder, Colo.) was crowned champion of the 2013 Amgen Tour of California, held May 12-19 in Escondido, Calif. Finishing in a final time of 29:43:00, van Garderen dominated the mountaintop finish at Mt. Diablo. Matthew Busche (Wauwatosa, Wis.) claimed sixth place in 29:46:50, and Chad Haga (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished 10th with a time of 29:48:52.

Olympian Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn.) claimed her third consecutive elite supercross title at the 2013 USA Cycling Elite BMX National Championships, held May 18 in Chula Vista, Calif. Post held off second-place finisher Arielle Martin (Spanaway, Wash.), while Dani George (Palmdale, Calif.) placed third. On the men's side, Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif.) earned his second national championship by edging Olympic teammate Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev.). Jared Garcia (Victorville, Calif.) rounded out the top three.

Lea Davison (Jericho, V.T.) rode her way to 17th place with a time of 1:39:21 in the elite women's cross-country event at the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, held May 17-19 in Albstadt, Germany. Also representing the U.S. women, Georgia Gould (Ketchum, Idaho) placed 24th in 1:41:19. On the men's end, Mitchell Hoke (Boulder, Colo.) finished 40th.

DIVING

Samantha Pickens (Murrysville, Pa.) and Deidre Freeman (Grinnell, Iowa) went one-two in the women's 1-meter event at the 2013 U.S. Diving World Championships Trials, held May 15-20 in Tallahassee, Fla. Pickens also paired with Amanda Burke (Southampton, Pa.) to qualify in the women's synchronized 3- meter, while Tori Lamp (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Amy Cozad (Indianapolis, Ind.) qualified as the top two divers in the women's 10-meter. On the men's side, Olympic bronze medalist Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) won the 1-meter and 3- meter events, and David Bonuchi (Columbia, Mo.) and Toby Stanley (Conway, Ark.) earned the top spot in men's 10-meter synchronized. The men's 3-meter synchronized final came down to the last dive, with Michael Hixon (Amherst, Mass.) and Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) holding on for the win over David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Ipsen.

Estee Pryor (New Albany, Ohio) claimed a pair of bronze medals in the women's 10-meter and synchronized 3-meter with partner Madison Witt (La Canada, Calif.) at the 2013 FINA Grand Prix, held May 17-19 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The pair finished with a score of 272.80, while Pryor scored 292.20 to earn her individual bronze. Christo Law (San Antonio, Texas) and David Dinsmore (New Albany, Ohio) collected bronze in the men's 10-meter synchronized final with 340.38 points. Law added a silver medal with Grayson Campbell (Vienna, Va.) in the 3-meter synchronized event.

FENCING

Amanda Sirico (Bowie, Md.) was the top producer for Team USA, earning a 14th- place finish at the 2013 Epee World Cup, held May 13-19 in Rio de Janeiro. Sirico posted a 4-2 record, including a 15-4 win over Korea's Hyojoo Choi in the round of 32. Meanwhile, Katharine Holmes (Washington, D.C.) clinched the final spot for the senior world championships and Pan American Games with a 15-13 victory over Ukraine's Kseniya Pantelyeyeva to place 30th. Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.) clinched 35th place, but had already secured a spot on the senior world championships and Pan American Games team after posting top-16 results at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

KARATE

The U.S. National Karate Team captured second overall with six medals (two golds, three silvers, one bronze) at the 2013 Pan American Championships, held May 16-18 in Buenos Aires. The U.S. went one-two in the female Kumite 68 kg. division as Cheryl Murphy (Jamaica, N.Y.) edged Eimi Kurita (Chicago, Ill.) for the gold. Sakura Kokumai (Honolulu, Hawaii) claimed gold in the female Kata event while Murphy picked up another medal, earning silver in the female Kumite open. On the men's side, Thomas Scott (Richardson, Texas) took home silver in the male Kumite 75 kg. division.

ROWING

Megan Musnicki (Naples, N.Y.) and Taylor Goetzinger (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) won the women's pair in 7:16:92 at the 2013 U.S. National Rowing Selection Regatta #2, held May 16-18 in Mercer Lake, N.J. Ellen Tomek (Flushing, Mich.) and Meghan O'Leary (Baton Rouge, La.) sealed a first-place finish with a time of 7:09:32 in the women's double sculls as Katie Bertko (Oakland, Calif.) and Kristin Hedstrom (Concord, Mass.) clinched the lightweight women's double in 7:12:31. In the men's pair, Mike Gennaro (Haverford, Pa.) and Olympic bronze medalist Henrik Rummel (Pittsford, N.Y.) claimed the fastest time in 6:39:91, while Matt Miller (West Springfield, Va.) and Willie Cowles (Farmington, Conn.) finished in 6:32:57 to win the men's double sculls. Colin Ethridge (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Peter Alter (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the competition with a first-place finish in the lightweight men's double in 6:48:52.

RUGBY

The U.S. Women's National Rugby Team defeated Spain, 17-12, in the plate final of the 2013 Women's Rugby Sevens World Series, held May 17-18 in Amsterdam. With time expired, Vanesha McGee (Ewing, N.J.) split the defense and touched down in the try zone to seal the overtime win. Team USA finished with a 5-1 record in the tournament and placed fourth overall in the IRB Women's Sevens World Series.

SWIMMING

Andrew Gemmell (Wilmington, Del.) and Haley Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif.) captured the men's and women's 5-kilometer national titles on May 12 to conclude the 2013 U.S. Swimming Open Water National Championships in Castaic, Calif. Gemmell outreached Joey Pedraza (Borward, Fla.) in 57:22.07 in the men's 5K, while Anderson clocked in at 1:00:36.51 for the win. On May 10,, Alex Meyer (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Christine Jennings (Longmont, Colo.) outswam the competition to claim national titles in the men's and women's 10K events. Meyer finished in 1:54:58.94 while Jennings held on for the win with a time of 2:02:14.33. With their victories, the foursome qualifies for the 2013 FINA World Championships along with 10K runner-up finishers Becca Mann (Saint Petersburg, Ill.) and Sean Ryan (Hixson, Tenn.).

TABLE TENNIS

2012 Olympian Ariel Hsing (Milpitas, Calif.) and Lily Zhang (Palo Alto, Calif.) advanced to the round of 64 in women's doubles at the 2013 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships, held May 13-20 in Paris. Yahao Zhang (Fort Worth, Texas) advanced to the men's singles round of 64, but was eliminated after a 1-4 loss to Korea's Miyoung Park. Zhang also teamed with Hsing to advance to the round of 64 in mixed doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

At the second stop of the 2013 Diamond League, 2011 world champion Jason Richardson (Cedar Hill, Texas) won the 110-meter hurdles in 13.23 - the second- fastest time in the world this year - on May 18 in Shanghai. Olympic gold medalist LaShawn Merritt (Portsmouth, Va.) also recorded a near world-best time in the men's 400, crossing the finish line in 44.60 for second place. Olympic silver medalist Justin Gatlin (Woodham, Fla.) ran 20.21 in the men's 200 to garner a second-place finish, while Mary Saxer's (Lancaster, N.Y.) equaled her personal record of 4.6 meters to finish second in women's pole vault.

WRESTLING

USA Wrestling entered the home stretch of World Wrestling Month with the historic Grand Central Terminal "Rumble on the Rails" event featuring the U.S., Russia and Iran, held May 15 in New York. The U.S. handily defeated Russia, 8-1, and lost to Iran, 6-1, in ahead-to-head duel format.

The international friendly continued with the "United 4 Wrestling" duel meet, featuring the U.S., Russia and Canada, held May 19 in Los Angeles. Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Jordan Burroughs (Sicklerville, N.J.) improved his international record to an incredible 54-0, helping the U.S. post a 7-4 overall record at the event.
