Boston, MA – New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski reportedly underwent a fourth surgery to repair a broken left forearm.
The Boston Globe cited a league source saying Gronkowski had the procedure done on the forearm that he broke twice in the 2012 season. The Globe said the surgery, which was meant to replace the plate in the forearm, took place Monday afternoon at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Gronkowski has been battling an infection due to multiple surgeries performed to correct a fracture which was originally suffered back in mid-November.
According to the paper, a source said the infection appears to have completely cleared. That means Gronkowski can start an 8- to 10-week rehab to recover, but he may miss the start of training camp.
The 24-year-old Arizona product finished the 2012 campaign with 55 receptions for 790 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 11 games.
