The Chicago Blackhawks will try to regain the lead in the Western Conference semifinals when they visit the Detroit Red Wings for Monday's Game 3 battle at Joe Louis Arena.

The top-seeded Blackhawks earned a 4-1 victory in the opener of this best-of- seven series on Wednesday, but Detroit came back and won Game 2 in Chicago by the same score.

Detroit fell behind 1-0 in Saturday's Game 2 but notched four unanswered goals over the second and third periods to even the series at 1-1 before it shifted to the Motor City.

Brendan Smith netted the game-winning goal for the seventh-seeded Red Wings late in the second period. Damien Brunner, Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula also lit the lamp for the Red Wings.

Henrik Zetterberg posted two assists and Jimmy Howard stopped 19 shots for the win.

"Now we're freshened up a bit. This series is on," noted Wings head coach Mike Babcock.

Patrick Kane registered the lone goal in the loss and Corey Crawford made 26 saves for the Blackhawks, who saw their eight-game win streak against Detroit ended. It marked the Red Wings' first win over Chicago since Jan. 14, 2012.

"Across the board, we should all assume some responsibility. We have to be way better than that," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville when asked if he placed any blame for the loss on Crawford.

Detroit was 13-7-4 as the host during the regular season and posted a 2-1 record in its opening-round win over second-seeded Anaheim. The Red Wings ousted the Ducks in seven games to head back to the second round after losing to Nashville in the conference quarterfinals last spring.

Chicago, meanwhile, was 18-4-2 on the road this season and split two games in Minnesota in the first round. The Blackhawks beat the Wild in five games to earn their first trip to the conference semifinals since winning the Stanley Cup in 2010.

"We know going into their building it's going to be even more difficult than it was today. We'll turn the page," said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews about heading to Detroit to continue the series.

Detroit welcomed back forward Drew Miller to the lineup in Game 2 for the first time since breaking a bone in his right hand on April 20. However, fellow forward Mikael Samuelsson suffered an undisclosed injury in practice on Tuesday and has sat out the first two games of this series. He is questionable for Monday's contest.

These Central Division and Original Six foes also have met 15 times in the playoffs and Chicago has taken eight of those series. However, Detroit has claimed the last two postseason encounters, including a five-game series win when the franchise's last met in the playoffs in the 2009 Western Conference finals.
