Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson turned himself in to authorities on Monday for allegedly violating several terms of his probation and served time in Broward County jail before being released on $1,000 bail.

Johnson, while a member of the Miami Dolphins, was arrested last August on a misdemeanor after allegedly head-butting his then-wife Evelyn Lozada during an argument.

According to a police report, Johnson and Lozada were arguing in a vehicle. The argument apparently started when Lozada found a receipt for condoms in the car.

Johnson, who had never been arrested during his NFL career, was released by the Dolphins soon after the incident. He was given a probation sentence, but an arrest warrant was issued last week after Johnson failed to check in with his probation officer.

The next court date for Johnson is reportedly June 3.

The 34-year-old veteran played his first 10 seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals and spent the 2011 campaign with New England. He has 766 career catches for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.
