Brandon McCarthy hasn't won in eight starts this season. The right-hander aims for his first triumph in an Arizona uniform tonight when the Diamondbacks resume their three-game series at Marlins Park.
McCarthy threw six shutout innings in a no-decision against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. This will be his first appearance against the Marlins.
Tom Koehler get the ball for Miami in his third career start and 16th appearance. The righty's initial start of 2013 came Sunday on the road against the Dodgers when he limited Los Angeles to seven hits and a pair of runs in five frames.
Arizona is on a roll of late having won three straight and eight of its last 11 contests. That includes Friday's 9-2 rout.
Paul Goldschmidt went 4-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers. Eric Chavez and Cody Ross drove in two runs apiece, with Chavez knocking a solo shot, and Martin Prado had an RBI for the Diamondbacks. Chavez went 4-for-5. He has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 13-for-24.
Arizona starter Trevor Cahill (3-4) allowed just one run on five hits and four walks over eight frames.
"I was just keeping the ball down and making a pitch when I had to," Cahill said. "I'll try to throw more strikes next time."
Rob Brantly and Placido Polanco each drove in one run for the Marlins, who are on a six-game losing streak. Starter Kevin Slowey (1-4) lasted three innings, giving up six runs on seven hits.
"He struggled with his command," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "He just couldn't throw a breaking ball and could tell he just didn't have it today."
The Diamondbacks won six of nine games over the Marlins in 2012 and five of seven in 2011. The teams split six games in 2010.
