Kavarna, Bulgaria – Third-round victories on Saturday morning by defending champion Nicolas Colsaerts and Graeme McDowell set up a rematch of last year's World Match Play Championship final.
This time, the pair will meet in the quarterfinals after Colsaerts prevailed over Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano at Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort and McDowell ousted Bo Van Pelt, the only American in the field,
The reigning champ took the first five holes from Fernandez-Castano, but needed all 18 to finally secure a 2-up victory.
"I should have ended this game about an hour, an hour and a half ago. I have a putt to win the game on 13, and there's a par five, and I made a bit of a mess of it. Thank God it's over," said Colsaerts, who defeated McDowell 1-up last year.
Brett Rumford's incredible run came to an end Saturday morning when he fell to South African Branden Grace, 4 & 3. The former, coming off back-to-back victories at the Ballantine's Championship and China Open, was looking to join Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros as the only players in European Tour history to win three consecutive events.
Grace will take on Chris Wood, a 5 & 3 winner over Richard Sterne.
Francesco Molinari defeated Carl Pettersson, 6 & 4, and earned a quarterfinal date with Thomas Aiken, who needed 19 holes to dispatch Shane Lowry.
The last quarterfinal match pits Scott Jamieson, a 1-up winner over Felipe Aguilar, against Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee, who outlasted Peter Hanson over 21 third-round holes.
