St. John's baseball coach Ed Blankmeyer has set the program record for career victories, earning his 612th with a 4-3 win over Seton Hall.

Blankmeyer, in his 18th season with the Red Storm, surpassed Joe Russo's school mark Thursday night against his alma mater. The milestone win also came with his son — freshman infielder Ty Blankmeyer — and nephew — freshman right-hander Mike Sheppard III — in the St. John's dugout.

Blankmeyer, who replaced Russo in 1996, helped lead Seton Hall to the College World Series in 1974 and '75 as the Pirates' starting second baseman. He later served as an assistant for Seton Hall under father-in-law and former coach Mike Sheppard.

St. John's (23-31, 10-12 Big East) snapped a 13-game winning streak by Seton Hall (34-17, 16-6).
