FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots have released starting defensive tackle Kyle Love after he was diagnosed with diabetes.
The three-year veteran started 11 regular-season games last year and one of two postseason games. He joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Mississippi State in 2010 and started 25 of the 41 regular-season games in which he played.
His agent says Love was diagnosed about two weeks ago with Type 2 diabetes. Agent Richard Kopelman says that's less serious than Type 1. He also says Love lost about 20 pounds before being diagnosed but has gained about half of that back and was working out at Gillette Stadium before being released Wednesday.
Kopelman said the Patriots expressed concern about not knowing what Love's recovery time would be.
