Arsenal ran out at the Emirates on Tuesday to a 4-1 victory over Wigan, sending the Latics down to the Championship.

Lucas Podolski handed the home side the lead with a header off of a corner kick in the 11th minute, but Wigan answered through Shaun Maloney's fantastic free kick just before halftime.

The Latics were riding high, but Roberto Martinez ultimately was unable to orchestrate another miracle survival as Wigan conceded three goals the span of eight minutes to ensure relegation.

Theo Walcott provided the telling go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute, taking advantage of a curious feet-first save attempt from Joel Robles and slotting a low cross into the back of the net.

Podolski extended the lead five minutes later by nodding a through ball over the on-rushing Robles before Aaron Ramsey hammered home a shot from a tough angle in the 71st minute to seal Wigan's fate and keep Arsenal on track for a fourth-place finish.

The Gunners improve to 70 points on the season to move one point ahead of fifth-place Tottenham with one match to go.

The Latics, who edged Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, become the first team in England to get relegated from the Premier League despite winning the domestic cup. Wigan finishes the season third from bottom, heading into their final match with 35 points.

Manchester City 2, Reading 0

Reading, England - Manchester City bounced back nicely from its FA Cup disappointment, earning a 2-0 victory over Reading at the Madejski on Tuesday.

The Citizens suffered a loss to Wigan in the FA Cup final on Saturday to ensure a season without silverware, but they maintained a modicum of pride thanks to Sergio Aguero's opening goal in the 40th minute and Edin Dzeko's insurance strike two minutes from time.

The victory sees City clinch second place in the top flight as the club improves to 78 points. Reading remains second from bottom with 28 points.
