The Portland Timbers' excellent run of form continued on Sunday as the club posted a 3-0 victory over Western Conference rivals Chivas USA at JELD-WEN Field.

Rodney Wallace, Diego Valeri and Will Johnson found the net to ensure three points for the Timbers, who extended their impressive uneaten run in league play to nine consecutive matches in the process.

Portland was on the front foot for almost the entire match and appeared to have opened the scoring early on when Mamadou Danso corralled a lofted pass behind the Chivas defense in the 13th minute. He took a touch and put it past Chivas goalkeeper Patrick McLain, but the assistant referee's flag was raised for offside.

The Timbers got one that counted in the 34th minute when Ryan Johnson sent a quick pass over the top to Wallace, who nodded the ball down for control on the left flank and finished with authority past McLain with a left-footed strike.

The hosts added a second goal with 20 minutes to play as Valeri snuck through the Chivas backline via a nice through ball from Wallace and fired it past McLain

Portland added one more for good measure in stoppage time as Will Johnson took a pass off a short corner on the left wing, cut to the box completely unmarked and beat McLain to the far post to put the match away for the Timbers, who improved to 18 points from 11 matches.

Chivas, meanwhile, has cooled off after a hot start and are winless in five consecutive contests.
