Manchester, England – Like he has so many times in his 26- plus years in charge of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson saw his team net a late goal to claim a 2-1 win over Swansea City in his final home game as manager of the club on Sunday.
It was an emotional day at Old Trafford as Ferguson took his place on the United bench for the final time in a home game, and Javier Hernandez put the club in front in the 39th minute after striking the crossbar earlier in the contest.
Swansea was up for the fight, however, and Michu equalized in the 49th minute, threatening to spoil the celebratory mood around the stadium.
But Rio Ferdinand netted his first goal of the season in the 87th minute when a corner kick was swung into the area and skipped to the back post for Ferdinand to fire past goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel.
United held out for the final few minutes, and it was time to celebrate at the final whistle with the Red Devils receiving the league title in addition to sending Ferguson off with a farewell he so richly deserves.
Tottenham 2, Stoke City 1
Stoke-on-Trent, England - Emmanuel Adebayor lifted Tottenham's hopes of a top- four place when he scored in the 83rd minute to give Spurs a 2-1 win at Stoke City on Sunday.
Tottenham entered the weekend in fifth place, and after Chelsea's 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday, the pressure was on Spurs to collect three points at the Britannia Stadium.
But things got off to a terrible start for the visitors when Steven Nzonzi headed home Charlie Adam's free kick in the third minute.
However, Clint Dempsey took advantage of some confusion in the Stoke defense and he fired a shot from 30 yards into the empty net after a clearance left Potters goalkeeper Asmir Begovic out of position.
Adam made life tougher on his team when he collected a second yellow card in the 47th minute, and Tottenham took advantage as Adebayor turned home Dempsey's low cross from close range to move the visitors into fourth place, two points clear of Arsenal, which will face Wigan on Tuesday.
Everton 2, West Ham 0
Liverpool, England - A goal in each half from Kevin Mirallas helped Everton secure a 2-0 home win against West Ham on Sunday, wrapping up sixth place for the Toffees.
Mirallas was on target in the sixth minute for Everton when he took a pass from Steven Pienaar and placed the ball inside the right post beyond the reach of goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.
The lead was doubled on the hour mark when Everton scored on the break as Darron Gibson released Mirallas and the striker finished off the move in fine fashion, finding the top corner of the net.
The match also marked the final home game for Everton manager David Moyes, who is heading to Manchester United in July after 11 years in charge of the club.
Liverpool 3, Fulham 1
London, England - A Daniel Sturridge hat trick propelled Liverpool to a 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, continuing a good run of form for the young striker.
The home side took the lead through Dimitar Berbatov in the 33rd minute, but Sturridge took over from there, leveling the match in the 36th before adding two more goals after the break.
Sturridge has now tallied six goals in his last four games for Liverpool, which will end the season in seventh place.
Fulham has lost its last five games to continue its drop down the table, although the club sits five points clear of the relegation places.
Norwich City 4, West Bromwich 0
Norwich, England - Norwich City will be back in the Premiership next season after a resounding 4-0 win over a poor West Bromwich side at Carrow Road on Sunday.
The Baggies had little incentive in the match, while Norwich was fighting for its survival, and it showed in the performance of the two teams.
Robert Snodgrass gave the hosts the lead 25 minutes into the contest, and things really fell apart for the visitors over the final half hour.
West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster handed Grant Holt the second goal with a terrible giveaway, while Gareth McAuley's own goal a few minutes later had Norwich well on its way to three points.
Jonathan Howson capped the win with a fine effort in the 90th minute, lifting the Canaries six points above the drop zone.
Newcastle 2, QPR 1
London, England - Newcastle secured its Premiership survival with one game to go on Sunday as the club earned a 2-1 comeback win over relegated QPR at Loftus Road.
Loic Remy's 11th-minute penalty kick gave the home side the lead, but the Magpies were back on level terms seven minutes later when Hatem Ben Arfa converted from the spot after drawing a foul on QPR defender Jose Bosingwa.
Bosingwa was at the center of the winning goal as well when his poor backpass forced an equally weak clearance from goalkeeper Robert Green, which allowed Yoan Gouffran a simple finish into the empty net.
Newcastle had to survive an anxious final nine minutes after goalkeeper Robert Elliot was sent off for handling the ball outside his penalty area, but the Magpies held on to move six points clear of 18th-place Wigan and keep their status as a top-flight club.
Sunderland 1, Southampton 1
Sunderland, England - Jason Puncheon came off the bench to snatch a point for Southampton in a 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Sunday that still leaves the Black Cats in danger of being relegated.
Sunderland took the lead in the 68th minute through Phil Bardsley, who made a nice run down the right wing and fired a shot across goalkeeper Artur Boruc that took a slight deflection off of defender Jos Hooiveld.
But Southampton had relegation fears of its own to contend with and James Ward-Prowse's cross set up the equalizer as Puncheon headed the ball on target, forcing a save from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. However, the Saints midfielder was the first to pounce on the rebound and clinch a vital point for his team.
Southampton appears to be safe with a five-point gap separating the team from 18th-place Wigan, while Sunderland is four points clear and will be assured of a spot in the top flight if the Latics lose at Arsenal on Tuesday.
