Ben Watson left Wembley Stadium stunned on Saturday as the midfielder's goal at the death helped Wigan claim a dramatic 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Watson entered the match in the 81st minute, but he was left plenty of time to make an impact as his header in the first minute of stoppage time lifted the Latics to their first FA Cup crown in club history.

Wigan may not have been in the mix late in the match had it not been for Joel Robles' heroic save in the 29th minute. The Wigan 'keeper denied Carlos Tevez from close range as his outstretched foot got enough of the Argentine's shot to see it rise above the crossbar.

The two sides traded scoring opportunities throughout the match, but the tide turned in Wigan's favor six minutes from time when Pablo Zabaleta was issued his second caution of the match for a rash challenge on Callum McManaman.

And the extra man proved to be the impetus Wigan needed to go on and claim the fabled trophy.

McManaman, who terrorized the City defense all day, breezed past Gael Clichy to make it into the penalty area. He had a penalty shout rebuked after going down under the Frenchman's tackle, but referee Andre Marriner ruled that the ball had gone out of play off of the City defender.

Wigan made the most of the ensuing corner kick as Watson drifted to the corner of the six-yard box and sent his glancing header to the far upper corner to seal the historic triumph.
