Russell Teibert scored his first MLS goal for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 63rd minute, and then he netted another 13 minutes later to lead his side to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy at BC Place on Saturday.

Galaxy substitute Gyasi Zardes pulled a goal back for his team in the 86th minute after Teibert's brace, but Darren Mattocks secured the win in stoppage time with a goal for the Whitecaps, who snapped a seven-match winless streak.

The most anxious moment for either goalkeeper in a tame first half came in the 36th minute when Nigel Reo-Coker's right-wing cross was turned on his own net by a poor clearance from Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez, with goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini coming to the rescue.

But Teibert brought the match to life in the 63rd when he took a pass from Reo-Coker on the right wing and cut back onto his left foot before firing a low shot inside the far post.

Gershon Koffie set up Teibert's second goal when he held off two defenders inside the penalty area and laid the ball off for the 20-year-old to fire first-time past Cudicini.

Zardes gave the Galaxy a lifeline when he scored in the 86th minute with a header from Jose Villarreal's cross, but Mattocks took advantage of some sloppy defending in stoppage time to put the result away from close range.
