Austin Peay State University announced Saturday that former walk-on football player Jeremy Maze has lost a battle with nasopharyngeal cancer.
The 21-year-old Dyersburg native arrived at Austin Peay in fall 2010 as a defensive end after playing linebacker and tight end in high school. He was redshirted that season, then was diagnosed with the cancer a year later and never played in a game with the Ohio Valley Conference school.
Maze was a criminal justce major.
Nasopharyngeal cancer is a disease in which malignant cancer cells form in the tissue of the upper part of the throat behind the nose.
