Marseille aims to delay PSG coronation

Marseille will try to put PSG's title celebrations on hold for at least 24 hours as the club faces a must-win against mid-table Toulouse at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday.

If Marseille fails to beat Toulouse, PSG will be crowned Ligue 1 champions for the first time in 19 years one day before the leaders visit third-place Lyon.

Marseille brings a nine-game unbeaten streak into the match and faces a Toulouse side that owns one victory from its last five fixtures.

And while a Marseille victory might just delay the inevitable PSG title celebration, it also has importance in the race for Champions League positioning.

Marseille leads Lyon by four points, while a win on Saturday would clinch at least a spot in the top three, which would put the club into the Champions League next season.

Lyon is in need of three points to continue its push for a spot in the Champions League as the club holds a three-point edge on fourth-place sides Nice and Lille.

With three wins from its last four games, Lyon has positioned itself to claim a top-three spot, but a trip to Nice after the PSG match sets things up for a crucial stretch of games for Lyon.

Nice will be facing a desperate Evian side on Sunday with Evian sitting in the bottom three and only one point from safety, while St Etienne resides in fifth place and has a four-point gap to close on Lyon for third place.

St Etienne hits the road to meet Lorient on Sunday, Bastia entertains Montpellier and Rennes visits Valenciennes in a battle of mid-table sides.

The relegation picture continues to take shape on Saturday as second-from-the- bottom Troyes travels to Ajaccio with the club sitting four points from safety.

Nancy is one point clear of the bottom three and visits Bordeaux, while last- place Brest must claim three points at home against Sochaux to keep its slim survival hopes alive.

On Friday, Salomon Kalou scored a goal in each half to help Lille to a 3-0 win over Reims, which moves the club to within three points of Lyon.
