Claude Giroux registered a goal and two assists to lead Canada in Friday's 4-1 win over Belarus at the World Hockey Championship.

Steven Stamkos and Andrew Ladd each had a goal and one helper for Canada, which sits atop the Group S standings with 13 points, two more than Switzerland.

Ryan O'Reilly supplied the other Canadian tally, while Belarus tested goaltender Devan Dubnyk with only 10 shots.

Alexei Yefimenko scored the lone Belarusian goal and Dmitri Milchakov stopped 33 shots.

Also in Group S action, the Czech Republic doubled up winless Slovenia, 4-2.

In Helsinki, the host Finns got two goals from Petri Kontiola in a 3-2 win over defending champion Russia. The triumph moved Finland into first place in the Group H standings.

The Russians were coming off Thursday's shocking 2-1 setback to France that ended their 13-game event winning streak.

Other Group H play saw Austria edge Slovakia, 2-1, in a shootout.
