Montreal, QC – Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price will miss the remainder of the Eastern Conference finals against the New York Rangers.
Price sat out the third period of Game 1 on Saturday after yielding four goals in the 7-2 setback, and it was uncertain if it was because of injury or poor play.
Rangers forward Chris Kreider crashed into Price feet-first during the second period, but the netminder played the remainder of the stanza before being pulled.
Canadiens coach Michel Therrien made the announcement on Monday before Game 2.
"Carey Price will not be available tonight, nor for the rest of that series," Therrien said. "We've lost our best player, but we've faced adversity this year already."
Price has a 2.35 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in 12 games this postseason.
Peter Budaj took over for Price in the third period Saturday and surrendered three goals on just eight shots in his first playoff action this spring.
