The Boston Red Sox transferred relief pitcher Joel Hanrahan from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL prior to Thursday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins.
Hanrahan made his second trip to the DL in almost a month on Tuesday thanks to a right forearm strain, but was pushed back to make room on the 40-man roster for pitcher Jose De La Torre, who was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.
For De La Torre, 27, it will be his first major-league call-up. He went 1-0 with one save and a 1.56 earned run average in 10 games with Pawtucket this year.
To make room on the 25-man roster, the Sox sent pitcher Allen Webster to the PawSox one day removed from a disastrous start against the Twins, during which he allowed six hits and eight runs over just 1 2/3 innings to absorb the loss during a 15-8 Minnesota rout.
