Tottenham did little to help their Champions League chances for next season after battling Chelsea to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs entered the match in fifth place in the Premiership on 65 points and a win would have moved the club ahead of Arsenal into the final Champions League qualification spot, but Spurs will now need some help in order to achieve their goal.

The result lifts Spurs to 66 points, one behind Arsenal, and they need to win both of their remaining two matches and hope that the Gunners drop three points in either of their final two matches.

Chelsea, meanwhile, moved ever closer to securing Champions League competition for next season as the Blues remain in third place with 69 points.

The hosts opened the scoring 11 minutes into the match as David Luiz lofted a corner kick into the box from the right flag, where Oscar got his head to it and directed it past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the early advantage.

Tottenham drew level in the 26th minute when Emmanuel Adebayor came galloping down the left flank on the break and saw the Chelsea backline retreating. He cut to the middle and unleashed a curling, right-footed strike into the top right corner of the net, leaving Blues goalkeeper Peter Cech with no chance for a save.

But six minutes before the break, the home side re-took the lead when Fernando Torres played a through ball behind the Tottenham backline and Ramires ripped it first-time into the far corner for the 2-1 margin.

It looked as though Chelsea would hold on to claim three points, but Spurs found another equalizer 10 minutes from time through second-half substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson, who ran onto a nice back-heel pass in the box from Adebayor and beat Cech to the far corner to make it 2-2.

Deep in stoppage time, the visitors had one final chance to steal a winning goal as Gareth Bale was awarded a free kick from just outside the box, but the Welsh international hit it straight into the arms of Cech and the sides settled for a point apiece.
