The National Hockey League announced on Monday that the 2014 Coors Light Stadium Series will make a visit to Los Angeles for an outdoor contest at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25, 2014.

The league's 2012 champion Los Angeles Kings will play host to the Anaheim Ducks in a regular season tilt in the first outdoor NHL game played in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River, the southern-most outdoor NHL contest and first-ever outdoor game played in the Golden State.

"With their meeting in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, the Ducks and the Kings will write the next chapter in the exciting story of NHL hockey in Southern California," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said. "At a venue that represents so much glorious sports history, this match-up of Stanley Cup champions will raise our outdoor initiatives to bold new heights. We know the game will be a treat for our fans, and we thank the Ducks, the Kings, Coors Light, Dodger Stadium and the Los Angeles Dodgers for bringing it to life."

It will be the second time that the Kings have laced up the skates outdoors, after the team played an exhibition contest versus the New York Rangers in the parking lot of Caesars Palace at Las Vegas on Sept. 27, 1991.

The NHL Stadium Series will also feature Detroit against Toronto in the Winter Classic on New Year's Day at Michigan Stadium and Chicago versus Pittsburgh on March 1 at Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears.
