Hamels eyes second straight win as Phils resume set with Marlins

Cole Hamels tries to win back-to-back starts for the first time this season when the Philadelphia Phillies continue a four-game series against the Miami Marlins Saturday at Citizens Bank Park.

Hamels hasn't won consecutive outings since ending the 2012 campaign with six straight wins over a 10-start span, but the lefty is coming off a solid six- inning road performance against the New York Mets on Sunday. That's when Hamels allowed two hits and a run.

Over his career, Hamels is 8-10 with a 3.29 ERA in 25 games when facing the Marlins. That includes a no-decision over six innings in the game against tonight's Marlins starter, Jose Fernandez, on April 13.

Fernandez, who makes his sixth start, still doesn't have a major league victory. The 20-year-old rookie right-hander didn't get a decision Monday against the Mets when he gave up a pair of runs in four innings.

Fernandez faced Philadelphia earlier this season on April 13 at Marlins Park. He held the Phillies scoreless on two hits and two walks, while striking out five batters in a season-high six innings.

Last night, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Domonic Brown each clubbed a solo homer to lead the Phillies to a 4-1 win. Ben Revere added an RBI single and Carlos Ruiz scored a run for the Phillies, winners in five of their last seven games.

"Hopefully those three-run homers and two-run homers will come. If we start putting runners on those will come. We'll take those solo homers, though, and we'll keep trying to manufacture runs," Howard said.

Jonathan Pettibone (2-0) surrendered just one run on five hits without walking a batter over 6 1/3 innings to pick up his second straight win. Jonathan Papelbon worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his fifth save of the season.

Donovan Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and Marcell Ozuna added two hits, including a double, for the Marlins, who have dropped 11 of their last 14 meetings with the Phillies.

Ricky Nolasco (2-3) allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings to absorb the loss.

"Ricky did a nice job. He kept us in the game and executed his pitches. He gave us a chance, but we need to start doing a better job of putting some runs up," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.

Miami lost two of three at home to Philadelphia from April 12-14.
