What now?: Los Angeles Lakers plot an uncertain future after failed season ends in sweep

The Los Angeles Lakers are wrapping up for the summer, their largely disastrous season ended with a first-round playoff sweep.

But the drama is merely paused for a few weeks.

The Lakers' offseason could be just as tumultuous as their highly anticipated season, which ended with a whimper.

Dwight Howard's unrestricted free agency, coach Mike D'Antoni's job status, Pau Gasol's tenuous future, Metta World Peace's amnesty possibilities and the injury recoveries of Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash are only the biggest issues facing the Lakers as they decide whether to try this grand experiment again.

The Lakers began with championship aspirations after acquiring Howard and Nash, but it never worked out as almost everybody expected. Injuries and an early-season coaching change meant Los Angeles never established any cohesiveness.
