The St. Louis Cardinals made a move to address their faulty bullpen Monday by optioning left-hander Marc Rzepczynski to Triple-A Memphis.
Rzepczynski has contributed to the majors' worst relief corps, allowing seven runs on 13 hits over eight innings. St. Louis is last in the league with a 6.08 bullpen ERA.
Conversely, the Cardinals' starters boast the lowest ERA at 2.18.
Rzepczynski's demotion created a roster spot for Seth Maness, who had his contract purchased from Memphis.
The 24-year-old right-hander, the Cardinals minor league pitcher of the year in 2012, made four starts this season for the Redbirds, going 2-2 with a 4.32 ERA.
Maness has issued only 18 walks in 247 2/3 innings throughout his minor league career.
