Werder Bremen has suspended both Marko Arnautovic and Eljero Elia for the final three games of the season after both were caught speeding.

Both players were stopped in separate cars last week for speeding on the Autobahn, which led to the club imposing on a temporary ban on both.

However, Bremen decided to extend that ban for the rest of the season despite the club sitting in a precarious position in the Bundesliga table.

"In the final stretch of the season we need all players to be fully focused," said sports director Thomas Eichin. "We have made it clear to Marko Arnautovic and Eljero Elia that their behavior damaged the team in this phase. Both will train separately until the end of the season."

Bremen has spent the past 32 years in Germany's top flight, but the club sits just two points clear of the bottom three with three matches to play.

Elia has appeared in 24 league contests for Bremen after arriving at the club last summer, while Arnautovic has netted five goals in 26 Bundesliga games.
