Malaga remained in the hunt for a fourth- place finish by picking up a 2-1 win over Getafe at La Rosaleda on Sunday.

The home side made the most of its aerial ability as both of its goals came from headers.

Roque Santa Cruz got Malaga off the mark in the 40th minute when he nodded home a cross from Sergio Sanchez, and Weligton made it two in the 47th minute when his glancing header from a corner kick ended up in the far corner of the net.

Getafe managed to pull one back 20 minutes from time when the ball ping-ponged around in the penalty area before being hammered into the back of the net on a volley from Valera, but it proved to be nothing more than consolation strike.

Malaga improves to 53 points to climb to fifth place while Getafe's three successive La Liga losses keep the club in ninth place on 44 points.
