Buffalo Sabres left wing Jochen Hecht announced his retirement following Friday night's 2-1 shootout victory over the New York Islanders.
Hecht finished his career ranked 12th in franchise history in games played (612), 18th in goals (138) and 23rd in assists (207).
The Sabres finished the season with a 21-21-6 record and out of the playoffs.
After the game, Hecht announced he is heading to his native Germany with his family.
A second-round draft pick by St. Louis in 1995, Hecht finished his 14-year career with 186 goals and 277 assists. He played for St. Louis the first three seasons and then Edmonton one season (2001-02) before joining the Sabres.
