New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis says his father-in-law's condition has been upgraded to serious after he was injured during the explosions at the Boston Marathon.
Reis says John Odom has undergone eight or nine surgeries for injuries to his legs from one of the blasts near the finish line on April 15. Reis said on Saturday that he had moved with his 7-year-old son Jacob from the area of the blast a few minutes before it occurred. The group that included seven people had been waiting for Reis' wife Nicole, who was competing in the race.
He said that instead of creating hysteria and despair the people responsible for the bombing created hope.
The 16-year veteran of Major League Soccer spoke before the Revolution's game against the Philadelphia Union.
