Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jonathan Sanchez received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from Major League Baseball on Saturday.
Sanchez intentionally threw at St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig in the first inning of Friday's 9-1 loss. The suspension was scheduled to begin Saturday, but Sanchez elected to file an appeal.
The 30-year-old is 0-3 with a 12.71 earned run average in four starts this season.
