UNC Asheville announced on Friday that the school has hired Nick McDevitt to lead the men's basketball program.

McDevitt, who previously held the title of associate head coach, replaces long-time coach Eddie Biedenbach, who left the program to take an assistant position at UNC Wilmington earlier this month.

"We are delighted to introduce Nick McDevitt as our new head basketball coach," UNC Asheville director of athletics Janet R. Cone said. "In the nine years I've worked with Nick, he has always conducted himself as a champion and a leader."

A 2001 UNC Asheville graduate, McDevitt spent 10 seasons with the Bulldogs as an assistant coach before taking the associate head coach position in 2011.

The Bulldogs, members of the Big South Conference, finished this past season with a 16-16 (10-6) record.
