New York Mets starter Jon Niese exited Tuesday's game against the Dodgers after taking a comebacker off his right leg in the third inning.
Los Angeles' Mark Ellis hit a one-hopper back towards the mound, and Niese couldn't get out of the way before it struck him on the inner right calf.
The left-hander exited under his own power after a brief conference with the team trainer, and Robert Carson entered from the bullpen.
The Mets' Twitter feed stated Niese suffered a "contusion to the lower right leg" and is listed as "day-to-day" after X-rays came back negative.
Niese, who was 2-1 with a 3.80 in his first four starts, was charged with one run on three hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings.
