The Atlanta Braves placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and recalled infielder Tyler Pastornicky from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Heyward underwent successful appendectomy surgery on Monday night at Rose Medical Center in Denver, where the Braves were set to open a three-game set against the Rockies.

Monday's opener was postponed due to snow, but the teams are slated to play a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Heyward, 23, is hitting .121 with two home runs and five RBI in 17 games this season.

Pastornicky batted .351 with six doubles and seven RBI over 18 games with Gwinnett this season.
