As 3-on-3 basketball aims for Olympic status, Moscow picked to host 2014 world championship

The 2014 world championship in 3-on-3 basketball, which could be its first as an Olympic sport, will be held in Moscow.

The International Basketball Federation says the tournament will take place over five days in June.

The Russian capital also hosts an IOC executive board meeting in August that will decide whether to include the half-court, street-style version of basketball at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko says "we support FIBA's efforts to make 3x3 an Olympic discipline."

The 2014 worlds will be the second tournament, after the inaugural event in Athens last August.

Serbia was the men's champion, the United States won the women's event and France won the mixed gold.
