Brewers' Gomez claims NL Player of the Week honor

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez has been selected as the National League's Player of the Week for games played between April 15-21.

Gomez batted an NL-best .500 (9-of-18) and led the majors with a .944 slugging percentage over six games, all of which were Milwaukee wins. The 27-year-old also belted a pair of homers with three RBI and five runs scored along with a .526 on-base percentage.

In addition, Gomez collected three hits in three consecutive games from April 14-17, becoming the first Brewer to do so since Casey McGehee from Sept. 22-24, 2010.

Others considered for the award were fellow Brewers Ryan Braun and Jean Segura; St. Louis' Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina and Lance Lynn; Cincinnati's Shin-Soo Choo, Homer Bailey and Mat Latos; Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez and Pittsburgh's Russell Martin and A.J. Burnett.
