The Oakland Athletics have acquired outfielder Casper Wells from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations.

Wells joined Toronto as a waiver claim from Seattle on April 10, but did not appear in a game for the Blue Jays and was designated for assignment five days later. He hit .189 with two homers and 14 RBI in 16 spring training games before the Mariners designated him for assignment on March 31.

The 28-year-old Michigan native spent most of the 2012 season with Seattle and batted .228 with 10 homers and 36 RBI in 93 games. He is career .246 hitter with 25 homers and 80 RBI in 224 games over three seasons with Detroit and Seattle.

Oakland opened a spot on the 40-man roster by transferring infielder Scott Sizemore to the 60-day disabled list. Sizemore will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL earlier this month.

The Athletics will make another move on the 25-man roster once Wells reports to the team in Boston.
