The Cincinnati Reds placed catcher Ryan Hanigan on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left oblique.
Hanigan, who had been bothered by a sore right thumb for nearly two weeks, suffered the oblique injury in the ninth inning of Friday's game against the Miami Marlins when he reached to catch a high fastball from closer Aroldis Chapman.
In 12 games this season, Hanigan has struggled at the plate, hitting just .079 (3-for-38).
To replace Hanigan, the Reds selected the contract of catcher Corky Miller from Triple-A Louisville. Pitcher Nick Masset was transferred to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster for Miller.
