Manchester City suffered a 3-1 loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday, leaving the Citizens on the brink of relinquishing their Premier League title.
City has amassed 68 points through its 33 games, but it may not be enough to overtake first-place Manchester United as the Red Devils can clinch the title with victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Monday.
Sunday's affair started brightly for City as Samir Nasri opened the scoring in the fifth minute. The Frenchman cushioned a delivery from James Milner and fired a volley past Hugo Lloris for just his second league goal of the season.
A cagey period of play followed, but Spurs managed to snatch the victory late on thanks to three goals in the span of seven minutes.
Clint Dempsey leveled the score in the 75th minute after Gareth Bale played a perfectly-weighted pass across the six-yard box. The American capitalized on a statuesque City backline and cooly slotted home the low cross.
Jermain Defoe grabbed the go-ahead goal four minutes later, latching on to a through ball before drifting inside the penalty area and uncorking a lethal strike that beat Joe Hart at the far post.
Bale put the finishing touches on the memorable comeback, taking a pass from Tom Huddlestone and chipping a shot over Hart.
Tottenham strengthens its bid for Champions League football next season as it improves to 61 points to retain fifth place for another week.
Liverpool 2, Chelsea 2
Liverpool, England - Liverpool claimed a controversial point at Anfield on Saturday as Luis Suarez escaped a red card and went on to grab a late equalizer in the club's 2-2 draw with Chelsea.
The Uruguayan appeared to bite the arm of Branislav Ivanovic midway through the second half, but the incident went unnoticed by the officiating crew.
It proved to be pivotal after Suarez ended up netting the tying goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Chelsea had taken the lead in the 26th minute when Oscar nodded a corner kick into the upper corner at Pepe Reina's near post.
Liverpool brought on Daniel Sturridge at halftime, a move that paid instant dividends when the former Chelsea striker slotted home an inch-perfect ball from Suarez in the 52nd minute.
The Blues restore their advantage after a blatant hand ball from Suarez gifted the visitors a penalty kick, which Eden Hazard converted to send Chelsea ahead.
After Suarez's moment of madness went unnoticed, the Uruguayan connected once more with Sturridge as he got on the end of a cross to the near post to nod the equalizer past Petr Cech.
The result sees Chelsea remain in fourth place with 62 points and Liverpool remain in seventh place with 51 points.
