James Buescher certainly looks like the man to beat in this afternoon’s SFP 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway.
SFP 250 Qualifying Results
Buescher, the reigning Truck Series champion, swept both practice sessions Friday at the 1.5.-mile track and on Saturday morning he claimed the No. 1 qualifying spot as well.
“We’ve won both practices and now we’ve got the pole and there’s only one thing left to do — win the race this afternoon,” said Buescher, who led Turner Scott Motorsports to its second consecutive qualifying sweep of the top three spots.
Buescher set a new track record of 178.306 miles per hour in edging teammate Miguel Paludo for the pole, the fourth of his career in 98 Truck Series starts.
Jeb Burton, who won the pole in each of the two previous races, was third in another Turner Scott Chevrolet Silverado. Points leader Johnny Sauter was fourth in his ThorSport Racing Toyota, with Ty Dillon completing the top five in a Richard Childress Racing Chevy.
The second five was Matt Crafton, Kyle Busch, Brendan Gaughan, Max Gresham and Todd Bodine.
SPEED’s coverage of today’s Truck Series race begins with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup at 1:30 p.m. ET, followed by the race at 2 p.m.
Today’s SFP 250 will be the fourth of 22 races on the 2013 Truck Series schedule. With three races in the books, Sauter leads Burton by 16 points and Crafton by 20. Ryan Blaney (-35) is fourth, with Dillon and Paludo tied for fifth.
