Outfielder Jose Bautista will play for the Toronto Blue Jays when the team opens a three-game series with the New York Yankees Friday at Rogers Centre.

Bautista, who has missed nearly a week due to back spasms and an inner ear infection, will bat third as the designated hitter in Friday's clash.

The two-time Major League Baseball home run champion has been out of action since Toronto's 3-2 loss at Kansas City on Sunday. He sat the club's entire four-game set with the Chicago White Sox with the ailments.

Prior to being sidelined, Bautista batted .200 with three home runs and six RBI in nine games. The three-time All-Star belted 27 homers with 65 RBI and a .241 average in just 92 games last season.
