Packers sign Pro Bowl LB Clay Matthews to reported 5-year deal

The Green Bay Packers have signed star linebacker Clay Matthews to a contract extension.

The team announced the move Wednesday without disclosing terms. FOX Sports reported the deal is for five years and worth $13 million per year in new money.

Matthews, who was drafted out of Southern California in the first round (No. 26 overall) in 2009, is the only player in franchise history to be named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons. He has 42.5 sacks and has finished in the top five in sacks two of the last three seasons (13.5 in 2010, 13 in 2012).

Overall, Matthews has 270 tackles (191 solo), four interceptions (including two touchdown returns), seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a TD).
