It's been a humbling season for the proud Texas baseball program.
The Longhorns (20-15, 4-8) are tied for last in the Big 12 going into this weekend's home series against West Virginia. They've lost seven straight conference series dating to last season. No Texas team has finished at the bottom of its league since 1956.
For coach Augie Garrido and his players, the struggle is excruciating because of the fans' annual expectation to end the season at the College World Series.
The CWS is a long shot now. With a month left in the regular season, the Longhorns have a lot of work to do just to avoid missing the NCAA tournament in consecutive years for the first time since 1997-98.
