Rangers, Cubs begin interleague set at Wrigley

The Texas Rangers try to get themselves back on the wining track on Tuesday when they kick off a three-game interleague set against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Texas split a four-game set with the Seattle Mariners over the weekend, but dropped two of the final three games, including a 4-3 setback on Sunday. Nick Tepesch (1-1), coming off a win in his first outing, was touched for four runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 frames for the Rangers, who have alternated wins and losses over their last six games.

"Our offense definitely needs to get in gear sooner than later," Texas' David Murphy said.

Getting the call for the Rangers on Tuesday will be lefty Derek Holland, who is 0-1 with a 2.40 ERA. Holland absorbed the loss on Wednesday against Tampa Bay, despite a solid effort that saw him allow two runs and five hits in eight innings.

Holland did not get a decision in his only other start against the Cubs, but is looking forward to pitching at Wrigley for the first time.

"I really want to pitch there badly," Holland said. "It's history, and I love historic ballparks and it has a unique name. My dog's name is Wrigley. I think I'll name my next dog Fenway."

Chicago, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Travis Wood, who is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA. Wood did not get a decision last Tuesday against Milwaukee, as he allowed three runs (2 earned) and seven hits in 6 1/3 frames of a 6-3 win.

The Cubs lost three of four over the weekend to the San Francisco Giants, including a 10-7 loss in 10 innings on Sunday.

After allowing a game-tying home run to Hunter Pence in the ninth, Cubs reliever Shawn Camp (0-1) balked in the decisive run with no outs in the 10th. Camp allowed four runs and five hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Starlin Castro had three hits to pace Chicago, including his second home run. He is hitting .368 with three doubles, two homers and five RBIs over the last eight games,

The Rangers went 14-4 in interleague play last year, including 7-2 on the road. Chicago on the other hand lost seven of nine at home to the AL a year ago.
