The Oakland Athletics placed team RBI leader Brandon Moss on the paternity list prior to Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros.
Moss, whose 13 RBI through the A's first 14 games is currently tied for third in the American League, will miss at least Tuesday's matchup and possibly Wednesday's series finale with the Astros.
The first baseman is also batting .283 with two home runs for the AL West- leading Athletics.
Oakland recalled outfielder Shane Peterson from Triple-A Sacramento to take Moss' place on the active roster. The 25-year-old was hitting .410 with seven RBI and a Pacific Coast League-best .558 on-base percentage through 11 games with the River Cats.
