The Phoenix Mercury selected Brittney Griner with the top overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft on Monday.

Griner, a center from Baylor University, led the Bears to their second national title in 2012 with a perfect 40-0 record and finished her illustrious career with an NCAA record 736 blocked shots in both men's and women's college basketball.

The 6-foot-8 Griner ranks second in NCAA women's basketball with 3,283 career points and is a two-time national player of the year and three-time consensus All-America selection.

She joins a Mercury squad that went just 7-27 last season, but features veteran standouts Diana Taurasi and DeWanna Bonner.

Phoenix last had the overall top pick in 2007 and selected Duke's Lindsey Harding.

With the second pick in the draft, the Chicago Sky selected University of Delaware forward Elena Delle Donne. The 6-foot-5 Donne finished second in the nation this past season averaging 26 points per game and also added 8.5 rebounds per contest to lead the Blue Hens (27-3). Donne's 3,039 career points ranks fifth all-time in NCAA history.

The Tulsa Shock selected Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins with the third overall pick. The two-time Big East Conference Player of the Year ended her college career as the school's all-time leader in scoring. Diggins led the Irish with 17.1 points, 6.1 assists and 3.1 steals per game this past season.

The Washington Mystics took Ohio State guard Tayler Hill with the fourth pick. An All-Big Ten and All-Defensive first-team selection, Hill led the conference with 22.3 points per game during her senior campaign.

In the fifth slot, the New York Liberty took Texas A&M center Kelsey Bone, who averaged 16.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season as a junior.

The Seattle Storm snagged Maryland forward Tianna Hawkins with the sixth pick, the Liberty took Oklahoma State forward Toni Young at No. 7, the Sacramento Silver Stars went with Syracuse center Kayla Alexander with the eighth pick, the Indiana Fever selected guard Layshia Clarendon of California with the ninth pick and the Los Angeles Sparks selected Kentucky guard A'dia Mathies at No. 10.
