San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin dropped his appeal and started serving an eight-game suspension Sunday for his role in Thursday's bench-clearing brawl with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Quentin charged Los Angeles pitcher Zack Greinke and incited the bench- clearing tussle in the sixth inning. Greinke broke his left collarbone in the wild fight that ensued.

With the suspension starting with Sunday's game against Colorado, Quentin will miss the Padres' three-game series against the Dodgers that begins Monday. He will be eligible to return for an April 23 home game against Milwaukee.
