The Chicago Cubs claimed veteran pitcher Kameron Loe off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, three days after the reliever was designated for assignment.
The Cubs also announced that backup catcher Steve Clevenger will miss around two months after injuring his oblique while striking out to end Saturday's 3-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The left-handed hitter was placed on the 60- day disabled list to accommodate Loe's insertion on the active roster.
Loe was cut loose by the Mariners on Thursday after allowing eight runs and six homers in just 6 2/3 innings spanning four appearances. The right-hander went 6-5 with two saves and a 4.61 earned run average with the Milwaukee Brewers last season, then made Seattle's Opening Day squad as a non-roster invitee in the spring.
