New York, NY – San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin has been suspended eight games for his role in the incident that took place during the bottom of the six inning of Thursday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.
Major League Baseball announced the punishment, which includes an undisclosed fine, on Friday, just one day after Quentin charged Los Angeles pitcher Zack Greinke and incited the bench-clearing tussle in the sixth inning.
Quentin took umbrage with being hit by Greinke, who fractured his left collarbone during the fracas and is expected to miss the next eight weeks.
Los Angeles infielder Jerry Hairston, Jr. received a one-game ban and an undisclosed fine for his role in the melee.
Both players have appealed their suspensions and are active for tonight's games.
