Chelsea revealed Wednesday that defender Gary Cahill will face two more weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from a knee injury.

The 27-year-old, who suffered the injury in Premier League play against West Ham on March 17, withdrew from international duty ahead of England's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro last month. Further examination indicated that Cahill would require a minor meniscus operation, which he has since undergone.

"He had an operation," Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez said. "We did it very quickly on the Saturday of the Southampton game (March 30)."

Cahill's extended absence adds to the club's injury woes in defense as Ashley Cole is also facing some time away from action as he recovers from a hamstring problem.
