Akira Yaegashi won a unanimous decision Monday to take the WBC flyweight title from Japanese countryman Toshiyuki Igarashi.
Yaegashi (17-3, 9 KOs) won by scores of 117-108, 116-109 and 115-110 to hand Igarashi just his second pro loss.
Igarashi (17-2-1, 10 KOs) was making his second title defense after capturing the belt in July 2012 from Sonny Boy Jaro in a split decision. He had won 10 straight bouts dating back to December 2008.
Also Monday, Takashi Miura captured the WBC super featherweight title with a ninth-round TKO of champion Gamaliel Diaz.
Miura (25-2-2, 19 KOs) sent Diaz to the canvas in the third, sixth and seventh rounds before finishing him off in the ninth. He has won five straight fights.
Diaz (37-10-2, 17 KOs) was floored twice in the ninth before the referee stopped the bout. He had entered the ring with 14 straight wins and was making his first title defense after winning the belt last October with a unanimous decision over Takahiro Ao.
