Big-ticket trade acquisition Ervin Santana makes his second start for the Kansas City Royals Monday when they host the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.
Santana, a 96-game winner in 237 career big-league outings, was 9-13 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last season before joining the Royals in an Oct. 31 trade that sent minor-leaguer Brandon Sisk to the Angels.
Jackson signed with the Angels as an undrafted free agent in 2000 and reached the majors in 2005, ultimately winning double-digit games four times - including 16 apiece in 2006 and 2008 and 17 in 2010.
He debuted for the Royals on April 3 in Chicago, allowing four runs on five hits in six innings of a 5-2 loss to the White Sox.
He's 4-3 in 10 career starts against the Twins with a 4.31 earned run average in 62 2/3 innings.
For the Twins, veteran righty Kevin Correia makes his second start with his new team and meets the Royals for the second time in his 292nd big-league outing.
Now 32, Correia signed a two-year, $10 million deal with Minnesota after going 12-11 last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has won double-digit games for four straight seasons, including 12 and 11 for San Diego in 2009 and 2010, then 12 in two straight seasons for Pittsburgh.
He pitched seven innings of seven-hit, two-run ball against Detroit in his 2013 debut for the Twins, getting a no-decision in Minnesota's 3-2 defeat of the Detroit Tigers on April 3.
He lost his lone career meeting with Kansas City on June 21, 2008, allowing six hits and three runs in five innings of San Francisco's 5-3 loss to the Royals.
On Sunday in Baltimore, Aaron Hicks drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Twins edged the Orioles, 4-3, on Sunday in the best-of-three series' rubber match.
Justin Morneau hit a double that plated two runs and Chris Parmelee added a sacrifice fly for the Twins, who saw starter Pedro Hernandez, making just his second career start, give up three runs on four hits and walk three over five innings.
"It felt good not only to get a hit but to drive a run in," Hicks said. "It was the go-ahead run and the game-winning run so it was good. I've been trying to get a hit the entire time. I'm feeling good at the plate even though the results aren't showing it."
